Holocaust Survivors
Holocaust survivors mark bar mitzvahs at last. |
Solomon Moshe was born in 1937 in Athens, Greece. He was 4 years old when Adolf Hitler invaded his homeland/country. Him and his mom fled from the Nazis. They moved every couple of months. He knew that his mom was scared, but he never knew what was going on or what she was scared of. Moshe never felt comfortable talking about what had happened. Since they traveled so much Solomon didn't really have many friends, so the only thing that he had was his stuffed teddy bear.
Moshe and his mother made it trough the war, and they are the 20% of Jews that didn't get killed. In 1956, Solomon moved him and his family to Israel, so that they could start a new life and forget about their old life. Solomon Moshe didn't get a bar mitzvah, just like many of the 12 and 13 year olds that survived the Holocaust. Earlier this month - just before Israel's Holocaust Remembrance Day - a group of about 50 Holocaust survivors all came together at the Western Wall, in Jerusalem. The people were mostly in their 70s or 80s. The reason why they gathered was so that they could celebrate their bar mitzvahs that they didn't get to celebrate. Reaction
When I first read this I was shocked about the percentage of Jews that were killed. I thought that it was amazing that he is still alive and that he has the courage to talk about what had happened to him. I hope more people hear about this story, because it is a must hear story that can bring them to tears and bring happiness to their life.
