SPEECH
|
BackgroundMuch of the world's population, particularly in less fortunate countries, is made up of young people and children. To accomplish a peaceful world it is crucial that the rights of children and young people are respected, because they are the future. Unrighteousness against children adds to the spread of conflicts to future generations. At an astonishing eleven years of age Malala Yousafzai fought for girls' rights to an education. After she had been attacked by Taliban gunmen in 2012, she continues her struggle and she became a leading advocate of girls' rights. Malala Yousafzai is a girl, born on 12 July 1997, in Mingora, Pakistan. She strongly believed that children should have an equal right to attend school. In 2014 she won a Nobel Peace Prize that was also awarded jointly to Kailash Satyarthi "for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education".

Summary |
On October 10th, 2014 she made a speech in Oslo, Norway after she received her Nobel Peace Prize. She first thanked her parents for supporting her and not holding her back. Malala also acknowledged that she is the youngest person ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. She said that her award is also for those children that just want peace, but are too scared to do anything. Malala just kept talking about her sister's experience and where they are now, and how many girls just won’t speak up, so she does it for them.

Reaction |
I believe that Malala Yousafzai is a very brave individual. She shows that girls can do the same things that boys can do even though they are not the same gender. Malala can not only do those things, but she can do it better than a lot of boys could. I am so glad that we can have a girl in this world with enough mental strength to do all of the things that she has done. It still amazes me that she got shot in the head by a Taliban gunman, and she is still living, walking, and talking. There are so many people that are proud of and happy for her for receiving a Nobel Peace Prize, along with the amazing acceptance speech that she gave. I know I would not be able to handle everything that she has gone through, and that’s why I think she is so deserving of that award. I hope that other people look up to her the way I do, because how often do you find a person who is willing to die or suffer for the rest of her life just to make the world better.
